The season we’re currently in is what we like to call pre-holiday-family-time season; it’s just after the summer, right before the big holiday season comes around. It’s also that time of the year where you want to get in as much quality time with the spouse and kids (and, don’t forget about the dog!) before all those crazy cousins and overbearing in-laws come into town. We all have that one uncle… Anyways, you don’t have to take our word about pre-holiday-family season, there’s a national holiday for it! Keep reading for the 5 things you must do on National Family Day!
1. Have breakfast together
You know what they say: breakfast is the most important meal of the day! The best way to start off your Family Day celebration is by eating together for your first meal. Whether you make breakfast at home or head out to a nice restaurant nearby, this is a surefire way to have an amazing day together!
2. Spend time outdoors
Between work and school, it’s hard to find the time to just be outside and not worry about responsibilities (trust us, the kids will be glad when you tell them to take a break from homework). Family Day is the perfect excuse to set aside a few hours and get the whole fam outdoors on a nice hike or beach day. Don’t forget the snacks, but maybe “forget” your cell phone at home so you can truly enjoy this quality time.
3. Visit a local attraction
You know when those one-off events pop up in your town and you want to go but something alwaaays comes up? We’ve all said the famous line, “oh, we’ll go to the next one!” Well, this is the next one! If there is one good reason to go out to a local attraction, Family Day is that reason. Need some ideas? Check out this list of things to do on Oahu!
4. Family dinner
Just like starting Family Day off with breakfast together, end the day with dinner together! There’s nothing like family bonding over delicious food, so why not have dinner out for a change? Make tonight’s dinner even more special and spend it at Hawaii’s only revolving restaurant, Top of Waikiki! We’ve even got a keiki menu for the little ones; book your table for Family Day dinner now!
5. Game night!
You know that feeling after you get home from dinner but you’re not quite ready to go to bed? This is where family game night comes in! End a day jam-packed with fun, quality time with even more fun and quality time! For the full effect, have the fam change into their PJs and whip up some hot cocoa to sip on while you play.
